It’s cold, it’s dark, and it’s raining outside. It’s a Vancouver winter. And if you’re looking for a beer to lift your spirits, pick up a bottle of Cannery Brewing Maple Stout.
This is a terrific discussion piece, the sort of beer you need when visiting family and friends. Granted some people may be hesitant when they see maple and stout on the same label, but as Terry Schoffer, brew master for Cannery Brewing explains, “The addition of natural maple brings this premium Stout a softer, smoother mouth feel and adds a touch of sweetness to balance the dark, rich malts.” The maple flavour is evident before you even take your first sip because the sweet aroma is right there, tickling your nose as soon as you raise the glass to your lips. And that, ‘smoother feel,’ Schoffer talks about develops after the initial few sips. First is a burst of flavour, with the hops and maple all in one swallow, but the second and third swallows are an entirely different story, becoming smoother with each tip of the glass. There’s a definite finish with this stout, so you won’t feel like chugging it, but at the same time you won’t be inclined to put down the pint until the glass is empty.
So pick up a bottle of this very Canadian stout, available in 650 ml bottles, pour a pint, park yourself next to the fireplace, and enjoy Cannery Brewing Maple Stout.
